Chinese Red Cross Foundation (CRCF) organized a special forum on June 30 in Beijing to discuss and plan for furthering its rural medical worker training project together with 20 rural medical workers' representatives from 18 provinces/municipalities/regions. Mr. Hua Jianmin, Vice President of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the Red Cross Society of China, attended this important meeting where the medical workers made valuable comments and suggestions on the developing of health care course in rural areas. These remarks and proposals touched the areas of training of medical workers, improvement of health care facilities as well as income level of rural doctors.

One of the lasting challenges for China is that peasants have had difficulty seeing doctors, mainly due to lack of health care infrastructure and medical professionals in the countryside. Since CRCF rolled out this free training program in 2006, 1,400 rural medical workers from 26 provinces/municipalities/regions have benefited from it.
